During the 'Baanbrekers' event in Mechelen (Belgium) on November 16th, 2021, Martine Hiel, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Belgium, received the prestigious award for multimodal ambassador 2021.
'Baanbrekers' is an initiative of Multimodaal.Vlaanderen. During this event, the logistics sector of Flanders selects pioneering multimodal projects and the personal honorary title Multimodal Ambassador 2021 is awarded. A number of high-profile people get nominated for this title and the winner is chosen via online voting.
Martine Hiel was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful title: “I am honored to be awarded the title of multimodal ambassador. After more than a quarter of a century of hard work, it is a token of appreciation by the sector itself. I want to take this opportunity to encourage all colleagues to continue working on the multimodal path.”
Martine Hiel has been closely involved for many years in many developments within ECT and especially within EGS; we congratulate her on this beautiful and well-deserved honorary title.
Unique initiative in Flanders
‘Baanbrekers’ is meant to inspire companies in Flanders to make the multimodal transition. Flemish Minister Lydia Peeters supports Multimodaal.Vlaanderen in this: “Accelerated efforts to make freight transport more sustainable is essential as a top logistics region. More than ever, the future of mobility is multimodal, with transport by road, water and rail going side by side. We need to convince companies that multimodal transport is the way to go. I hope that the nominated ‘Baanbrekers’ will set an example for many other companies. Only by working together and sharing knowledge and experience and making good examples visible, we will be able to realize this mobility change.”
